Mapogos – Who Was the Six Infamous Lions?

All of you must be familiar with the brutality and wildness of the lions as they are considered the “king of the animals in the jungle.” The Mapogos were also lions who lived in the Sabi sand wild reserve area of South Africa. The Mapogos was a lion coalition containing six male lions that were considered a symbol of violence as they dominated the area of Sabi Sand.

These six brothers gathered together to dominate almost 170,000 acres by killing many fellow adult male and female lions and even cubs. That’s why their story is regarded as one of the most shocking stories in wildlife as it displays the unexceptional behaviour of lions among other lions.

The legendary six lions:

As we told you earlier, six male lion brothers and their bond of togetherness were called a coalition by the security company because of their brutal behaviour with other animals in the Sabi Sand reserve wild area.

The six lions were named, and their brief information is given below:

  • Makhulu:

He is the oldest lion in the Mapogos and was born in 1998. Makhulu is the only outsider lion who joined the coalition of five real male lion brothers. He was big in size and experience; he was named Makhulu, which means impressive and big in Zulu.

  • Pretty Boy:

He is named pretty boy because of his polite behaviour among other lions in the coalition. Additionally, he had fewer scars on his skin, so he became famous with the name pretty boy. He also avoided fights that were quite different from other Mapogos.

  • Mr T (Satan):

He was given this hairstyle name, which resembles an A-team character in the unique Mohawk mane. On the other hand, he was also named Satan because he killed the cubs of his brother. Think how brutal he was.

  • Skew Spine:

His name was given to him because of an injury scar on his skin. He had a unique scar on his left hip and spine. That’s why the Sabi Sand area wildlife workers named him after that scar.

  • Rasta /Dreadlocks:

One of the Mapogo members had fur, which resembles the form of a dreadlock in the hair. Something was caught in the mane of Rasta, and they started calling him dreadlock one.

  • Kinky Tail:

He was identified because of the kink in his tail. The name was given to him because of his uniqueness among other mapogos.
